Hey adventurer! Creating social media assets requires a lot of work. I remember back in the day when I just started making those, and I first had to look for proper dimensions for each social media app separately. This post is dedicated to the social media I am using since I never write about things I don’t use.
We are talking about Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok and Goodreads. I will be adding Fable and YouTube shortly. I created a free Figma social media image sizes guide, which will be updated as well.
The main thing to know about different social media platforms’ image sizes is that the majority of them use the same aspect ratio rule. As a one-person business, I need to make sure I make things as easy as possible. At the moment, it works.
Common aspect ratios
1:1 aspect ratio or a square image
4:5 aspect ratio for portrait image posts for Instagram (2025 default)
2:3 aspect ratio for Pinterest vertical pins (Pinterest offers a wide variety of aspect ratios)
9:16 aspect ratio for Instagram reels & stories, TikTok videos & stories, YouTube shorts
16:9 aspect ratio for YouTube videos
When designing images for your account’s profile pictures or cover photos, remember that they will be rounded when uploaded (most probably).
A tip for content creation
You can reuse your TikTok or Instagram reels on Pinterest. If you connect your Instagram to Pinterest, posts you publish in Instagram will be uploaded to Pinterest automatically. Honestly, that’s such a pleasant automation.
